Interesting idea, what sort of price would you be looking at for a weekend hire.

I remember dancing was possible; driving was possible; it was walking that was difficult!

Right, booked flights, but going to be heading from Luton:
Dep 14 December 2012 10:55
Arr 14 December 2012 13:35,
Then back on the Sunday:
Dep 16 December 2012 12:20
Arr 16 December 2012 13:00. ]
Might be a bit of a dash down, but feck it!

I've also booked a hotel too for the two nights - Best Western Kemaris - www.kemaris.fr/en/biarritz-hotel-best-western.htm - and it worked out at 150 euro for the two nights for a double. Looking forward to it, thanks to Jakes for the train information - I will definitely need it!

You can not write that. Trains are not yet posted for December 14! Too early!
You can watch it here (summer timetable):
telechargement.ter-sncf.com/Images/Aquit...012_tcm-11-26070.pdf
You have to wait for the winter timetable
Usually there are 3 or 4 trains in the morning.

Right, have looked through, and Fourdogs has got the best option for sure! Easyjet stopped doing flights to Biarritz this week, so the nearest is either Bordeaux or Toulouse - Bordeaux being easier to get away from. Flights from London go from Gatwick each day at 1205, land 1440 and from Luton at 1055 and land at 1335. If we fly on the Friday, that might have to be an option. Trains from the central gare head very regularly to Biarritz, although a lot of them require changing at Dax and a single costs £23.50. Try and get the direct ones (go to www.raileurope.co.uk , which take about 2 hours - the ones via Dax can give you a wait of up to 2 hours. Return flights from either Gatwick or Luton to Bordeaux cost around 50 quid, which is fairly sound.

No idea how much help that'll be, but thought I should share it! ;)

FWIW, I've been looking at flying from London (where I live). The main issue I have found is that there are no direct flights to Bayonne/Biarritz in the winter, and there are very few flights to Bordeaux - those that do fly get you in late morning and then there are no trains to Biarritz - the latest one on a Friday goes at 0756!

I'm still looking, it may be that an evening flight to Bordeaux, Toulouse or Bilbao may be in order
