Perhaps we need to walk before we can run and should start off with something simple. A few years back there was the:
'Come on Connacht, Come on Connacht, Come on Connacht Come on' chant (to the tune of D'ya Wanna Be In My Gang)

Maybe this would get the ball rolling?

"Our march is quite slow y'know, when we get to where we want to get to, it's going to take time, but when we get there it's going to be fantastic." - Johnny O'Connor 2013

Personally I think that an upbeat version of "The West's Awake" would work quite well!

A Connacht is not just for the Xmas Inter-Pros...
A Connacht is for Life

West Awake is way to depressing
Fields of Athenry makes sense but is kinda cliche- but people know it and it is sung sometimes

think no matter what we agree on- all we're gonna end up doing at the match is the "Coooooooon-aaaaaacht"

and swifty- Marching on Together sounds like a 80's sitcom theme-song imo :-/

i said it before and few people agreed but ill say it again. Look up 'marching on together' leeds united sing it. If people learn that and then we could change leeds to connacht etc. Song tells a good story

Was the "west is awake" not tried last year? from what i remember of it, it was seriously dreary!  We could do a Munster on it "Its a long way to Tipperary" was the marching song of the Connacht Rangers  :)

Personally i think it has to be something more upbeat than either "Fields" or "The West is Awake" or if not upbeat then something off the radar, something that wouldn't be perceived as a fan chant.

I can't see the wests awake catching on - people just don't know it. People do know the fields, so that has a much better chance. Ideally I'd like to see us adapting a well known song, and going from there e.g. one of the french teams sing a variation of the yellow submarine?

I am with S_P on  " Fields" we could go the whole hog and wear aran jerseys and cloth caps like they do in Manhattan on St Paddys day if we are to adopt that song.

Surely  could get something going over the PA system thats more appropriate like "The Wests Awake" - Imagine this belting out -

" And if when all a vigil keep , the Wests asleep , the Wests asleep , Alas as well may Erin weep , That Connacht lies in sliumber deep, But hark ,a  voice like thunder spake , the Wests awake , the Wests awake , Sing oh ! , Hurrah let England  ( or the opponents ) quake , we ll watch till death for Erins sake ( Connachts sake ) ".

SP, I would love to hear the last verse of The West's Awake belting out of the Clan Terrace but I can't see it happening unfortunately. I'd guess that 9/10 people in the province wouldn't be familiar with the song or have a clue what the lyrics are. I could be wrong.

I don't know the song, but I'd be willing to learn it!  Others probably would as well.

How does any song start to get sung on terraces across the globe? It just takes a few people to start it up from time to time.

Perhaps a project for the Clan moving forward is to identify a few songs and put together a songbook that forms part of the membership/welcome pack....

I'm sorry Seapoint but your comment above disgusts me...... Everyone to their own opinion but that is a great song/anthem its obviously a western song......and just cause its been hijacked my more successful sporting teams doesnt mean we should slate it!

Your entitled to your opinion just as I am with mine so why are you "disgusted" (it's not like I suggested we sing Boyzone or Westlife.. ;D), and my opinion has nothing to do with who sings it rather their miguided taste (don't get me started on my own footie team Liverpools version (shudders with embarrasment)....

It's mournful and depressing and I'd much rather sing something uplifting and passionate, give me "The Wests Awake" any day which is and always will be a real Connacht song...

I'd have to disagree with that, I can't think of another song that the average Connacht person would identify with more.

Regardless of what we choose to sing however, all we need is a dozen clanners in the center of the terrace to kick things off and the rest should follow. Would create a fantastic atmosphere and should be put in place before the HC games.

Decadence I refer you to the above, apart from the fact that it references Athenry it has nothing to recommend it, at all...

Sea Point is right, The Fields is appalling. Makes my ears bleed. We need something more upbeat.

God no, let them and Celtic keep that dirge, awful piece of crap.....

Great result tonight though, sounded like we failed to adapt to the ref again in the first half though.....
