The second string team in general get a bit of a raw deal, especially when they are in important positions like Hagan, as its very hard to impress at TH when the rest of the pack around you would not be up to heineken rugby standard for instance.
A three year deal is a big show of faith imo, considering the type of players who have received 3 year deals here lately. There are 5 other props at LI assuming none of them are leaving (although some might be or else why would they have signed Hagan?), which would suggest he will still have quite a fight on his hands to get consistent first team rugby.
They're losing Alex Corbisiero this summer, so Hagan is a direct replacement. His only chance of fitting in at Leinster was if he was Top 6 schools or from SH, the same issue that brought him west (he felt her didn't fit in).
If they look after him at the Reading Not-Nots, they'll end up with a test class prop.
i thought corbisiero is a LH? at least thats where he plays for England when fit.
Covers both sides actually for Irish.
I remember him from back at schools level he was primarily tighthead, he was at the American School in Cobham (near me and not far from Chelsea's training ground) and up to England U-20's ...

He has a chronic knee problem so they may be moving him across to ease the load and prolong his career..

connachtexile wrote: Ryan went on a loan to L.I. but when he came back some other club asked for Ryan and was offered Cronin instead pretty sure he went but I might be mixing him up with Ryan. It was at the start of the season and I don't follow Munster as closely as I used to.
EDIT: Yes! It was Cotter not Cronin. Thanks for that.
i see where the mix up is. ryan went to LI and came back after a month. Cotter went and replaced him. Cotter then went to Bath for a month. Afaik Ryan was at Bath also. Cronin could do with a 3 mth spell over there but there is high hopes for him to share LH next season. might be too soon imo.

salmson wrote: Good point Rossie, but the starting tighthead Aulika has tended to be moved over to loosehead when Corbisiero is unavailable, so his going might still benefit Hagan if this becomes a permanent shift.
Hagan will play regularly for Irish. He will power up again after leinsters attempts to change his game and will probably do well there. I was really hoping that he was heading south. He would have been a decent addition and probably shifted Bj during season assuming he stays. Chance lost for International team imo.(and munster).
makes a mockery of all these policy announcements from irfu re international team.

connachtexile wrote: I think L.I really wanted an Irish prop. Remember when I said they were after James Cronin at Munster? I have no idea what the thinking behind it is except maybe Hagan was going cheap and Irish props have being impressing when they've gone over recently i.e. James Cronin again. Think Hagan will do well there it's more forward orientated and will suit his style better.
where did u hear/read that cronin was at LI? i cant find reference to it anywhere. are you sure you arent talking about John Ryan?
or alan cotter even?
