- The West's Awake. Limited amount available of the IFTA award nominated documentary. Make sure you don't miss out on this limited run of DVD’s. Relive the magic of Connacht's first win in the Heineken Cup.

Is licensing a problem only if they sell them? In that situation, any chance they could be the supporters club 'free gift' next year?

You would have thought they'd target the Christmas market if they were going to release it but obviously that boat has sailed. Would be interested to know the exact reasons it hasn't come out.
Can't see that the SKY footage would be a major issue, it's only a fraction of the total production. Sure how did Leinster or Munster get it for their HEC winning tomes?
With Eric not finishing until May, there is still a big opportunity there to sell some units. It could come to pass in future that Eric's years of tenure were watershed moments for Connacht Rugby in the professional era.
I'm only speculating but I'd imagine Leinster or Munster could offset any large licensing costs or fees against the volume of units they could sell, which would be considerably more than a documentary focusing on Connacht Rugby would be expected to. It may just not have been financially viable.

Its just my memory of earlier disccussions was that they were not going to make a DVD due to the cost constraints but now it seems they have enough to just give them away?
If they wish to keep costs down, they could sell them through the Connacht store. Would probably have made money if they'd been available for Christmas.
Also the back of the box has that picture of the crowd from Toulouse so many fans have a staring role there!
Fully in agreement with you, they had tons of footage to work with also and could have easily recoded some voxpop from supporters to pad it out. if they wanted to release it commercially....
It is VERY disappointing that they failed to capitalise on this commercial opportunity, but the bottom line is it in their hands...

Friends of mine were invited to the Reception in the Marriot before the game last Saturday and they were given gift bags which included a copy of the Wests Awake on DVD.
Just wondering will the DVD be made available for sale to [strike]smelly peasants[/strike] the general public?
Hard to know Una, it was produced by Iris Production but who has ownership of it (and the right to push to DVD for retail) is hard to know. Is it Iris / TG$ ?
The West’s Awake- Rugbaí Chonnacht was directed by Kieran Hartigan (The Brave & the Faithful 2006) and co-produced by Hartigan and Aideen Kane (Back to School Primary Pressures) for Galway-based Iris Productions.
Funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, TG4 and Failte Ireland
I suspect Kieran Hartigan is the person to speak to, but they don't even have a company website/business address...
