I wouldn't get too down about it, Munster are probably still covering his wages etc.

Remember he's only had really limited time with Munster due to injury, he had a decent NPC career behind him in NZ. I frankly don't see how anyone could know much about him due to how little he's played since leaving NZ.

Really downbeat about this signing. Not the type of player I want to see arriving to try to provide serious competition at tight head but with Rogers and Ah You out probably the only one available. Its hardly a ringing endorsement of Stewart Maguire though.

On the positive side its better he's coming in now than at the end of the season, if he doesn't deliver we aren't stuck with him and its not like we're battling for anything major anyway.

I hope that he'll come here knowing its last chance saloon and show what he can do. If he fails here he can start packing his bags.

He is not the only player in the squad with this problem Moore would also be lacking game time and out of the equasion if Murphy did not have an operetion on an injury !! there are also quite a few others in the squad that are screaming out for game time. But as the saying goes if your face fits !!!!
In my opinion we don't need him, he's not setting the world alight at Munster is he ???? as matter of interest was he playing in the A fixture against us a few months back ?

Maybe the players just aren't good enough?

Nope they went with the lightweight option against our U-20's - Horan/Varley/Botha

285 Minutes of rugby in all Competitions over two seasons, the last being in Feb last year. I understand he's had a back injury, but not even an appeareance from the bench since then??

If he's that far down the Prop queue in Munster then we know all we need to really. We just better not be picking up his wages given they have been paying him not to play, they should be paying us to get him fit FFS....

Get the Cranberry on standby....

True, but in fairness he played against Australia a couple of days after he arrived, got hammered, got the full "My Gawwwd this lad couldn't hold up a wawwwwwwwwll" from George Hook, got bugger all game time while John Hayes was wheeled out of cryogenic statis for matches at the behest of the Irish management, and then got a long term injury.

Didn't realise his contract was up. If that's the score then the management are exploiting an injury crisis to get in a no-risk punt - like Tonetti earlier in the season - and fair play to them. Hope he turns out as well.

On a related subject, can he play against Munster in a few months time or does the cowards' clause from football apply to loans in rugby too?

His contract with munster will be up in June,
Tis time to shit or get off the pot Peader

Based on his non preformances for Munster, this isn't a signing to set the pulse racing.

Trying to look at it positively, I think he only signed a two year deal will Munster so this is basically a three month trial to earn a contract with Connacht. If he turns things around and plays well, he's two thirds of the way to being Ireland qualified at the beginning of next season. He must have some talent if he played for Canterbury so maybe a change of scenery will do him good. If he's better than Loughney, Ah You, Maguire and Rogers, signing him makes a lot of sense.

Bit worrying alright that he hasn't seen any game time at all for them. I understood he was a project player. Much rather see us develop our own young props than this scenario, only benefit is to Munster if anything assuming we're picking up his wages even if he doesn't play....

Welcome Peter, I hope you have a damn big chip on your shoulder and something to prove, cos if you do we could use you.

Would this count as a moneyball type signing.??

Maguire is a bit soft yet according to a friend in the connacht set up. Borlase is a chance we probably need to take but he may get very little gametime if his not up to it. His not had much luck since his gone to Munster.
#Ay You isnt showing signs of putting in the hard work. His always looked wrecked after ten minutes on the pitch and doesnt looked bothered to get up and put in the tackles or get in the defensive line.

Be careful what you wish for it might just come true.

Borlase signed on loan from Munster

www.connachtrugby.ie/2012021682760/conna...borlase-from-munster

I thought in Maguire we already have a big raw game lump of our own. Bur we'd rather help Munster develop theirs?

Unless Maguire is injured, and in fairness he has been for a lot of the season, or we intend making the move permanent and want a look first, I'm struggling to understand this.

Peter Borlase was created by _nobody_
Has joined us on loan with immediate effect.

Thoughts??

Think with some work he could be an ok player. If I am not mistaking he was starting ahead of Rodney before they both came here.

I dont believe he is long term solution, but I dont feel Rodney is either. And the management obviously don't rate Maguire.
