That's kind of damning with faint praise. We were missing more than them: championship back 3 and Ireland no. 2 scrumhalf injured and 2/3 of our starting front row rested.

I think Michell was kind of right. There was more chance of a farcical Ulster try than a BP try, 30 m from our own line. Psychological impact would've been bad. Preventing them to get the LBP shows the real gap : we were clearly the better team vs 75% of a full Ulster lineup.

We should absolutely have got the bonus point, and there is plenty to work on (someone else called out maul defence, to which we can add allowing Ulster to drag us down to their level), but I'm still glass half full on this. First doubling of Ulster, no further injuries, and we've equalled last season's win total with 9 league games remaining.

I think the lack of depth is where we fall down in hunting for bonus points. Honestly we were out of gas at the end and had blown our chance at the 4th try but I'd still like to have seen us keep pushing for that try.

This is the 3rd home match this season we have played where we were on three tries and the game was won anyway and we kicked the ball out. To me it's a mentality we need to get past.

Sometimes you need to box clever for example if we were at home to Ospreys or Cardiff in a similar situation I'd kick the ball out no hesitation but at home to Perpignan in particular I didn't get the rationale of kicking it dead.

We are making huge progress and I appreciate the forwards had given their all by then but if we want to make the next step the top teams would never kick the ball dead in a similar situation.

Well then all the more reason for us to try for a bonus point.
I'm dissapointed we left the bonus point behind on the night, against a poorly performing Ulster team. We allowed them back into it in the first half and our display had reminders of the Leinster game, in that we couldn't close out and kill the game off and against a better team we could have been punished as we were against Leinster. I felt we took some wrong options when in good attacking positions in the second half.
Having said that, at the start of the season, if I was offered this position going into the New Year, I would have been delighted as it's such an improvement from last season, and the manner in which we play is very enjoyable to watch.

There's a 4th place playoff IIRC so if we gave Ulster a losing bonus tonight it could potentially have impacted on the possibility of playing a Heineken Cup qualifier in SG or in Ravenhill.

But we don't care if Ulster get a bonus point, they are not in our conference. We had a point to gain, none to lose. Having said that, no harm to get off before somebody gets hurt.
